Research seminar: The Agency of Display: Architecture exhibitions and the construction of postmodern architecture

OPEN RESEARCH SEMINAR – 11 DECEMBER 2018

The research groups A2I and ARP (Department of Architectuur) will host an open seminar entitled: “The Agency of Display: Architecture Exhibitions and the Construction of Postmodern Architecture” on December 11th 2018.  Speakers: prof. Véronique Patteeuw and prof. Léa-Catherine Szacka. The seminar takes place in the context of the FWO funded Scientific Research Network ‘Texts ≈ Buildings: Dissecting Transpositions in Architectural Knowledge (1880-1980)’.

It will take place on the 11th of December at 2.00 PM in room T20 at Campus Sint-Lucas Brussel. Paleizenstraat 65-67, 1030 Schaarbeek.

Véronique Patteeuw is Associate Professor at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture et du Paysage de Lille and visiting lecturer at Harvard GSD, Rotterdam Study Abroad Program. She lectured at the FRAC Orléans, Columbia University New York, IIT Chicago and EPFL Lausanne. Patteeuw’s work focuses on the history of architectural representation and the history and theory of postmodern architecture. She is member of the editorial board of OASE, Journal for Architecture and co-edited recently The Architecture of the Architecture Magazine (NAi Publishers, 2018), OMA: The First Decade (NAi Publishers, 2016) and with Lea-Catherine Szacka, the volume Mediated Messages: Periodicals, Exhibitions and the Shaping of Postmodern Architecture (Bloomsbury, 2018). She is doing research on the role of collages in the work of OMA and is preparing OASE103 “Critical Regionalism and Beyond”.

Léa-Catherine Szacka is Lecturer in Architectural Studies at the University of Manchester and Lecturer in Architecture at Harvard GSD, Rotterdam Study Abroad Program. Szacka’s work focuses on the history of architecture exhibitions and the history and theory of postmodern architecture. She is the author of Exhibiting the Postmodern: The 1980 Venice Architecture Biennale (Marsilio, 2016) – for which she was awarded the 2017 SAH GB Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion – co-author of Le Concert: Pink Floyd à Venise (B2, 2017) and co-editor, with Véronique Patteeuw, of Mediated Messages: Periodicals, Exhibitions and the Shaping of Postmodern Architecture (Bloomsbury, 2018). Currently, she is working on a compendium of conversations enquiring the contemporary state of architecture biennials and triennials (Columbia Books on. Architecture and the City, Forthcoming) as well as on Architecture Theory Review (23:1) “The Architecture Exhibition as Environment” and OASE 103 “Critical Regionalism and Beyond”.
